The Art of Writing about Art: Writing Workshop for Visual Artists . November 3 onwards for 4 weeks
An ONLINE writing workshop for Visual Artists. Open to ALL.
STARTING November 3
4 classes. Every Sunday 12noon- 2pm
Writing is a big part of a photographer of any visual artist’s work. The portfolio is never complete without the statement.
It’s hard to find a way to write Artist Statements and essays. It’s not that you don’t understand what you’re doing. You do. But we say—If I could write about it, then I would be writing about it, not photographing it!
Visual art is more immediate. Whereas writing feels more pre-meditated. It requires— first the idea, then the structuring of an idea into a coherent sentence. Then to make the sentence sound good.
Writing, I feel comes from a very part of our brain. Science will tell you that the visual part of our brain is the part a child uses to learn shapes and objects.
So here is the start.
Drop those ‘isms and art world speak. I assure you, you will lose your reader in a second if you don’t.
Learn how to write about your work clearly and simply— the hardest way to write. To catch the attention of curators, editors and judges.
It’s hard! Because you have to know innately, what you mean to say. But there are tricks and exercises .
Classes include workshopping your written statements about your visual work.
Workshop your writing in class with your classmates.
Learn how to read write badly written sentences.
On a more advanced level — learn how to marry text and image.
THIS CLASS HAS A CAPACITY FOR 12 ONLY. IF THERE ARE MORE OF YOU, THERE’LL BE A WAITING LIST OR, YOU CAN WAIT FOR THE NEXT WORKSHOP
NOTE:
I have tried my best to keep the price as nominal as I can. In an industry smeared with over priced and money making deals, I wanted to create something that is accessible to everyone and also workable for me. If you have any suggestions re pricing, don’t hesitate to get in touch. Bukusarkar@gmail.com

What Happens Now? Once you’ve paid/registered for the class, you will receive a confirmation email that is automated. That means you are indeed registered.
A week or two before class is due to begin, I will write to you all and explain what happens, the structure of the class, what to expect, what to bring etc. Please keep your ‘accept emails’ feature on when making the order as it is easy to email you all together. I will be, from time to time, emailing assigned text and we will all be exchanging our writings via email before class begins so we have read the work and are ready to begin critiquing.
Please also note, there will be short texts assigned to read and small passages to write. They won’t be long and laborious. I know we have other lives.
Any questions, please feel free to email me directly: bukusarkar@gmail.com
